Hello world!

Cracked paint, Berlin Wall 2009. Emily Lipsys

This is my first post, as you can see.

I happened to find this quote, while surfing the web… And it fits quite nicely with my idea for this blog.

“In a decaying society, art, if it is truthful, must also reflect decay.
And unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art must show the world as changeable. And help to change it.”
– Ernst Fischer (1899-1972. Writer, philosopher)

It really got me thinking. Can art be used as a tool to speak out about the things around us in the world? Can it be used make a change or difference? Art may be a way to make a statement. Or may simply give a voice to things (in a visual way), that can’t be expressed in words. Sometimes words can either say too much, or maybe not enough. Words, different languages, growing up in different cultures, (to name a few) among many other factors can be limiting when trying to communicate. Art can move past these boundaries.

This blog is to help me find creative expression in action in a political sense.

I am learning as I go. And am enjoying the ride so far!
